March marks the point of the year when winter transforms into summer and the weather starts to get warmer. Countries like Italy, Spain and Portugal have very mild weather, and the Canary Islands are still a popular choice with warm weather all year round. While the nights are still cool in the Canaries, the temperature during the day time can reach up to 20 degrees. Perfect weather for strolling around and sightseeing, or for hiking and other outdoors activities.
Springtime in Fuerteventura especially is very pleasant, and Fuerteventura is often called “the island of eternal spring“. It's generally very dry and sunny, with hot winds blowing in from the Sahara Desert.
In the Algarve in Portugal, temperatures are mild although you can't go swimming in the sea yet. Temperatures can reach up to 18 degrees. The high season hasn't reached the Algarve yet so you won't have to beat the crowds and queues in March.
Where ever you go in March, remember to dress in layers since it can get cool when the sun goes down in the evening and bring a light rain coat.
