By foot you will see so much natural beauty that you might miss by taking the train! Another must see is Porto Venere, although it is not one of the five villages that make up Cinque Terre, make sure to visit as the stunning medieval town is considered by many as the ‘hidden gem’ of Cinque Terre.

The nearest airport to Cinque Terre is Pisa airport. Flights from Dublin to Pisa operate year-round, from 2 to 6 days a week depending on the season. The flight time is estimated at 2 hours and 45 minutes. Once at Pisa, the travel time to Cinque Terre is an estimated 90 minutes! The festival of the sea takes place annually on the 24th and 25th of July, featuring many firework displays and parties to enjoy. Perhaps the most impressive event of the festival is the cross carrying from Levanto to the sea. Each cross weighs 100kg and local men take turns carrying these crosses!

Best Time to Go

The best time to visit Cinque Terre is during the summer season, as it is the perfect time for hiking and swimming in the sea. However, Cinque Terre can be extremely busy with tourists during the summer season. If you’d like to visit during at a calmer time and still experience good weather, we recommend visiting in September.
