The capital of the Republic of Austria is home to about 1.7 million people and is by far the biggest city in Austria, as well as its cultural, economic and political centre. For centuries the headquarters of the Habsburg monarchs were situated in Vienna and although this empire is long gone, countless remainders of this glorious epoch are spread throughout the city.
Only a few cities on the planet glide almost seamlessly between the present and the past like Vienna. Its magnificent historical face is easily recognised: grand imperial palaces and baroque interiors, museums flanking wonderful squares and, above all, the Hofburg – where the Habsburg rulers lived, loved and married into empires. Vienna not only has a great historical aspect but also has plenty of museums, restaurants, bars and countless shopping options - giving the city a gorgeous urban edge. Vienna has something for everybody.
If you are interested in art, Vienna definitely won’t disappoint as a lot of cultural legacy created by the countless artistic geniuses ranging from Mozart and Beethoven to Strauss, Schubert and Gustav Kimt await discovery.
