Situated on the Malta’s northern peninsula, Sliema has developed from a little fishing village into a lively vacation resort. The town is nestled between the Mediterranean shore and the Sliema Creek front and each side has a completely different face to it. Hotels overlook the Mediterranean Sea while the port comprises a lively array of bars, restaurants and a great choice of various stores.

Why Sliema? On your sun holidays in Sliema you can find a five kilometres long seafront promenade that links Sliema with the nearby town of St. Julians. Together the two make up the biggest vacation complex on the island, in which tourists can soak up the best of both worlds. Sliema, which means ‘peace’, is a tranquil paradise with a laid-back ambiance in a magnificent setting. St. Julians is the more vigorous of the two resorts, featuring a selection of bars, pubs and nightclubs for those looking for some late night activity.

Take in the carefree vibe while you are on cheap sun holidays in Sliema by strolling along the promenade. Along the way you can browse through the countless boutiques and craft stalls, take in a tranquil drink in one of the comfy cafes or sample some excellent food in one of the restaurants. Information & Facts

Things to do

Beach While Sliema has no sand shores, there are still a lot of places ideal for taking in the warm Mediterranean sun. A region of flat, smooth rocks shelving out to sea becomes a summer ‘beach’ and the bordering waters are full of colourful underwater wildlife, making it a fantastic site for scuba diving and snorkelling.

Attractions While there are no real attractions in Sliema itself, there is a choice of boat tours and excursions on offer, if you want to travel a little further afield on your sun holidays in Sliema. There is a great selection of cruises available ranging from round the island tours, an exciting trip around the Grand Habour, glass bottom cruises and journeys to the nearby island of Comino. Once you are on cheap Sliema sun holidays, a short ferry trip to Malta’s little capital of Valletta is highly recommended. This gorgeous city is nothing short of an open-air museum and makes for a memorable Sliema sun holiday experience. With gorgeous baroque architecture and golden sandstone roads, packed with charming wine bars and cafés this is the ideal place to take in the interesting history of the island. Malta is a very small island and nearly all sights are within easy distance for people who spend their sun holidays in Sliema, including the Hypogeum, an ancient underground temple and the historical island of Gozo.

Shopping Sliema is widely considered to have the biggest and finest choice of shops on the island. Travellers can indulge in some retail therapy in one of the countless shopping malls and markets along the port end. There are lots of tiny stalls offering regional crafts and trinkets as well. In Valletta there is a daily market that provides unique mementos and souvenirs, perfect to give to your loved ones at home when you return from your sun holidays in Sliema. If your plans allow it, try to make it on a Sunday, then the market is especially vigorous and full of atmosphere.

Eating and Drinking At night, the hotspot of Sliema is particularly alongside the waterfront. The promenade is packed with residents and holidaymakers alike that flock to take in the comfy cafés and bars that look out onto the sea. You can choose from a great range of restaurants on cheap Sliema sun holidays, which offer international food including Italian, French and Maltese dishes. Pubs also serve more familiar favourites like burgers and fish and chips. While there are a couple of more vibrant bars and nightclubs awaiting you on your sun holidays in Sliema, the ambiance is usually pretty laid-back at night. Those who are looking for a more exciting night out should head for the neighbouring resorts of St. Julians and Paceville, which are both famous for their wild nightlife scene.
