Spectacular Landmarks

Dubai has become synonymous with spectacular feats of engineering and record-breaking architecture. The Burj Khalifa, in Downtown Dubai, reaches the dizzying height of 828m tall, making it the world’s tallest building. Visitors can get incredible views of the city from the ‘At the Top’ observation deck on the 148th floor

The Dubai Fountain is located right next to Burj Khalifa and is the world’s tallest performing fountain. This dramatic water show is set to music and lights. For a front-row seat while the fountain is performing, you can sail on a traditional abra boat across the Burj Lake.

The latest addition to Dubai’s iconic skyline is the Dubai Frame in Zabeel Park. Marvel at what has been called the world’s largest picture frame at 150 meters high and 95 meters wide. The structure celebrates the development of Dubai and is positioned so that the landmarks of modern Dubai can be seen through one side, and older parts of Dubai can be seen through the other.

Public Beaches Dubai

Many seafront hotels have private beaches in Dubai but you can also enjoy the sun, sand and water sports at Dubai’s public beaches which are accessible all year round. Below are three of the best public beaches in Dubai.

Dubai Family Beach Burj

Sunset Beach is one of the quieter beaches along the coast and is the perfect spot to relax with the Burj Al Arab in the distant background. This is also where that quintessential ‘holding up the Burj Al Arab' photograph is taken.

The Beach is opposite JBR (Jumeirah Beach Residences) – a cosmopolitan area with restaurants, hotels, lounges and a range of family-friendly entertainment. Visitors can enjoy this beach which is easily accessible from anywhere in Dubai and sample a range of restaurants.

Kite Beach (below) is Dubai's sportiest beach and, as its name suggests, it’s a favourite with kite surfers. You’ll also find beach volleyball, stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking here and there’s a skatepark, an outdoor trampoline and a toddler-friendly area.

Al Mamzar Beach is situated in Deira and is a family favourite. It has five beaches for swimming and sunbathing and a variety of recreational areas, including acres of green lawns.

Dubai Family Fun

Make a splash at one of Dubai’s thrilling water parks. Aquaventure Waterpark has 30 thrilling waterslides and attractions. Young families will enjoy the gentle fun at Splashers Island and in the Lost Chambers Aquarium, you can get up close to dolphins, sea lions, sharks and stingrays. This water park also has a 500m private beach.

Other family attractions to visit include IMG Worlds of Adventure, the world’s largest indoor theme park, Ski Dubai in the Dubai Mall, Dubai Miracle Garden for the floral sculptures and Global Village (below) which brings different cultures together and is both a theme park and a market.

Indulge in Retail Therapy

From high-end shopping malls to charming souks, Dubai is the home of retail therapy. The Dubai Mall is the world’s largest mall with 1200 stores, including high-end favourites, and has something for every kind of visitor including an indoor ski slope! There are many other huge shopping malls as well as al fresco shopping precincts, artisan markets and traditional souks. And with regular sales and other events throughout the year, it’s always shopping season in Dubai!

You’ll find the Gold Souk, the Spice Souk and the Perfume Souk on the Deira side of Dubai Creek. You can then catch an abra (traditional) boat across to the Textile Souk on the other side of the water. Souk Madinat is a more modern reinvention of the souk and is part of the stunning Madinat Jumeirah resort. Stroll through the pretty alleys to find your treasures before stopping at one of their restaurants to refresh. Visit at night when the souk is alive with music and the buzz of shoppers.
