Vanessa's Trip to Sorrento

Vanessa Trip To Sorrento Macro

Sorrento serves as a convenient hub for exploring the enchanting Amalfi Coast. Whether driving or taking a boat, you can easily reach Positano, hop on a ferry to Capri, or venture to the ancient ruins of Pompeii. However, be aware that the summer months bring considerable crowds, and the traffic along the Amalfi Coast can be quite chaotic.

Location

Sorrento is a town located on the Sorrentine Peninsula in southern Italy. It is part of the Campania region and overlooks the Bay of Naples. The town is known for its stunning views of the sea, picturesque landscapes, and proximity to popular destinations like the Amalfi Coast and the island of Capri. Opting for a direct flight with Ryanair, I arrived in Naples for my journey to Sorrento. While Rome is another option, the transfer time is considerably longer, taking approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes from Naples to Sorrento via private transfer, compared to a 3-hour and 30-minute transfer from Rome.

What I Loved

The beauty of the Amalfi Coast left a lasting impression—I found every turn of the drive to be utterly breathtaking, with each corner revealing a new and stunning landscape.

Activities & Places to See

  • Take a boat to Capri Island, the chic and wonderfully scenic island of Capri is just a 45-minute hydrofoil ride from Sorrento
  • Uncover the archaeological wonders of Pompeii - The ancient Roman city of Pompeii, one of Italy’s most renowned attractions, is less than an hour’s drive from Sorrento.
  • Visit Mount Vesuvius, it's one of only two active volcanoes in Continental Europe and stands about 1281 meters tall, with a symmetrical central cone and steep wooden slopes.

Beaches

Sorrento itself is not known for its sandy beaches, but it does offer picturesque cliffside areas with access to the clear waters of the Bay of Naples. Some popular spots include Marina Grande and Marina Piccola. Additionally, many visitors use Sorrento as a base to explore nearby coastal gems like Positano and Amalfi, known for their beautiful beaches along the Amalfi Coast.

Bars & Restaurants

Sorrento boasts an abundance of traditional pasta and pizza restaurants, along with numerous gelato options. While it's challenging to single out just one, be sure to indulge in the local flavors. Don't miss the chance to try a Limoncello spritz—my personal favorite, adding a delightful touch to the culinary experience in Sorrento.
