Hvar, nestled in the Adriatic Sea, is renowned as a vibrant summer retreat with its enchanting features. From the 13th-century walls and hilltop fortress to the Renaissance-era Hvar Cathedral at the heart of the main square, the island is steeped in historical charm. With picturesque beaches like Dubovica and fragrant lavender fields inland, Hvar beckons visitors to explore its natural beauty. For those seeking tranquility, boat excursions to the secluded beaches and coves of the nearby Pakleni Islands offer a serene escape.

Location

To reach Hvar, the most convenient route is to fly into Split, followed by a taxi to the port (20 minutes) and a one-hour ferry ride to Hvar. Alternatively, if combining the trip with Dubrovnik, a ferry from Dubrovnik to Hvar takes approximately 3.5 hours, offering scenic stops at beautiful islands. Upon arrival in Hvar, the ferry docks centrally, providing immediate access to the vibrant surroundings. For accommodations outside Hvar, a short 10-minute taxi ride suffices.

What I Loved

I adored my stay at Podstine Beach Hotel in Hvar. Nestled into a cliff, the hotel's design features the reception on the top floor, bedrooms in the middle, and bars and restaurants on the bottom floor, seamlessly leading to the sea.

Activities & Places to See

  • Hvar is famous for its wine, and there are many vineyards on the island that offer wine tastings. Some of the most popular wineries include Tomic Winery, Dubokovic Winery, and Zlatan Otok Winery.
  • St. Stephen’s Cathedral cathedral is located in the heart of Hvar and is a must-visit for anyone interested in history and architecture. The cathedral’s square renaissance bell tower is an unforgettable sight in the evenings, when its white stone illuminated by the last light of the day and you can see right through the structure’s narrow arches.
  • Hvar has some of the most beautiful beaches in Croatia. Some of the most popular beaches include Dubovica Beach, Mlini Beach, and Pokonji Dol Beach .

Beaches

Hvar boasts captivating beaches such as Dubovica and pristine inland lavender fields. The island's shoreline is a perfect blend of secluded coves and sandy stretches, offering a diverse coastal experience for every beach enthusiast.

Bars & Restaurants

Hvar offers a diverse array of restaurants and bars, with popular spots like Hula Hula Bar standing out for its beachfront location, spectacular sunset views, lively music, and vibrant atmosphere—a must-visit for those seeking an enjoyable night out.
