Mary's Trip to Virginia
By Mary McGovern
I recently got to experience an unforgettable road trip through some of the most scenic destinations near Washington, DC. We explored Roanoke, the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway, historic Staunton, Shenandoah National Park, the amazing Luray Caverns, and the charming towns of Middleburg and Leesburg. The journey was filled with breath taking mountain views, outdoor adventures, fascinating history, and beautiful countryside drives. Each stop offered something unique, from nature and landscapes to local culture and small-town charm. It was an incredible trip where I got to discover so much of Virginia and create memories that will last a lifetime.
What I Loved
What I loved most about this trip was how everything was made up of small historic towns, beautiful countryside, sweeping mountains, lush green national parks, and endless opportunities for outdoor adventure. It felt like the perfect destination for anyone who enjoys being active in nature, with plenty of hiking and scenic exploration. One of the highlights was hiking in Shenandoah National Park, surrounded by incredible views and peaceful trails. I also really enjoyed visiting the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library and Museum, which was easy to explore on foot in a charming historic setting. Lunch at Skyland Resort in Shenandoah National Park was another standout, with amazing mountain views that made the experience even more special.
