Mary's trip to New York & Washington

Location

We flew from Dublin to Newark Airport with United Airlines and then from Washington Dulles back to Dublin. The flight to Newark was about 7 hours and 30 minutes. It was just a 1 hour drive from the airport to Manhattan.

What I Loved

The Skyline Drive through the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia was simply amazing with some incredible views through this National Parkway. Shenandoah National Park had a fantastic trek and climb to the summit of the mountain and it is well worth a visit. The electric scooter tour of Washington DC was a great way to see all the major sites and have some fun along the way.

Activities & Places to See

  • SUMMIT One Vanderbilt was a great experience and offered amazing views of Manhattan.
  • The City Cruise for dinner at Chelsea Pier 61 was great and gave good views of the famous New York Skyline at night.
  • The Hop on/Hop off bus tour is a very useful way to see all the famous landmarks.

Restaurants & Bars

We got the chance to eat at some really tasty restaurants during our stay in the USA. Level Small Plates Lounge in Annapolis offers a variety of tapas-style dishes inspired by global flavours. Boatyard Bar and Grill in Annapolis, renowned for its specialty in fresh fish dishes and a vibrant waterfront atmosphere was excellent. I also loved Stellina Pizzeria located in Union Market, Washington DC, which is nestled within a vibrant and up-and-coming neighbourhood adorned with colourful murals and boasts a funky atmosphere.
