Juliet's Trip to Zagreb

Juliets Trip To Zagreb

I travelled with my colleagues to Zagreb, where we spent 3 days taking in this enjoyable city. We flew direct with Croatia Airlines from Dublin to Zagreb, which took about 3 hours. From Franjo Tudman Airport we took a taxi to the city centre which took about 20 minutes.

Location

Zagreb is a cultural and energetic city with museums, shopping, lovely dining establishments and cafés that offer laid-back vibes perfect for unwinding. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and things to do and see, ensuring you'll never be bored in Zagreb! We stayed in the Canopy of the 4 star Hilton Hotel, which is located in the city centre. The hotel's style is a mixture of a traditional and modern style. The decor of the room is inspired by Zagreb's industrial past. There is a fitness center and an on-site cafe and bistro which serves authentic Croatian cuisine with fresh local ingredients and craft beers.

What I Loved

I loved St Marks Church in the Upper Town, with its beautifully colorful tiled roof. I also loved Dolac Market ,which has a lot of fruits, vegetables, flowers, and local souvenirs for sale. Relaxing by Jarun Lake was lovely and peaceful, and also a highlight of the trip.

Activities & Places to See

  • Walk to the Upper Town where you can explore the city and its historical monuments and art galleries.
  • Visit some of the city's museums, such as the Mimara Museum and the Museum of Broken Relationships.
  • Admire the numerous churches situated around Zagreb, including Zagreb Cathedral and St Mark’s Church.
  • Relax by Jarun Lake and stroll around Maksimir Park and the Botanical Gardens, where you can see beautiful scenes of nature and flowers.
  • Relive history by visiting Gric Tunnel and Lotrscak Tower.

Shopping

Shopping in Zagreb is a great experience as it has lovely boutiques and shops stocked with local products and clothes. The main shopping streets in Zagreb are Tkalciceva Street, which is perfect for a romantic stroll as it is full of cafes, restaurants, brand shops and boutiques, as well as Ilica Street and Kaptol Square.

Food and Bars

Zagreb offers a lot of restaurants to choose from which serve a range of foods, from local to international cuisine. Martiveca Street is full of amazing restaurants, while Dolac Market it is a nice place to find fresh fruits, vegetables and spices. We tried Mr Fogg, a lovely and cosy place with delicious cocktails and local food which also has the Michelin Noel. This was a fantastic place to eat with great food, an elegant atmosphere and nice staff.
