Jill's Trip to The USA

Jills Trip To Usa

I travelled with my colleagues to the USA, where we spent 15 days enjoying a tour around Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Washington DC, Richmond, and Phoenix. We flew with British Airways from Dublin to London Heathrow then on to Pittsburgh, and from Pittsburgh we flew with American Airlines for the internal flight. From Pittsburgh Airport we took a taxi to the city centre, which took about 25 minutes.

Location

Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Washington, Richmond and Phoenix are all vibrant, historical, cultural and cosmopolitan cities. There are plenty of restaurants, outdoor activities, bars, and forms of entertainment on offer. In Pittsburgh we stayed in the 4 star Omni William Penn Hotel, a charming luxury hotel with elegant and comfortable rooms. This hotel has a fitness room, on-site restaurant with an exquisite banquet space and a cocktail bar. In Baltimore we stayed in the 4 star Kimpton Monaco Baltimore Inner Harbor Hotel. This hotel has an on-site restaurant called B&O American Brasserie which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, and also has a lounge area with a variety of drinks and light fare on offer. There rooms here are modern and elegant, and it is a pet-friendly hotel. In Washington DC we stayed in the 4 star AC Hotel by Marriott Washington DC Downtown. This hotel has a restaurant, fitness centre and a lounge bar. The rooms are comfortable and are decorated very warmly. In Richmond we stayed in the 4 star Graduate Richmond Hotel. This hotel has a nice outdoor pool, fitness centre, and a modern and cozy lounge bar which serves a good breakfast. In Phoenix we stayed in the 5 star Mountain Shadows Resort Scottsdale. This hotel has a restaurant, outdoor pool, a fitness centre and bar. The rooms have a modern and monochromatic style.

What I Loved

I loved the White House in Washington DC, one of the most famous buildings in the world, and the Hardywood Park Craft Brewery which serves various delicious beers in Richmond. The Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix was also a fun day out.

Activities & Places to See

  • In Pittsburgh, visit the Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History which is home to more than 32,000 artistic objects including paintings, photos and sculptures.
  • Have a fun day out at the Camden Yards, which is home to the Baltimore Orioles, the official baseball team of Baltimore.
  • In Washington D.C. visit National Mall, where you can see the Washington Monument, built in honor of George Washington, the Lincoln Memorial with the famous statue of Lincoln and the Jefferson Memorial, which is dedicated to the third U.S. president.
  • In Richmond, visit the Hardywood Park Craft Brewery and try the delicious beers served there and hear some amazing live music at night.
  • In Phoenix, visit the Desert Botanical Garden, home to some 50,000 plants and a large collections of cactuses.

Shopping

Shopping in the U.S is really amazing and unique. There are many malls and outlets where you're sure to find something you'll love! In Pittsburgh you should definitely visit Ross Park Mall which has over 150 retailers. In Baltimore, do not miss the Baltimore Harborplace where there is over 100 shops, and the Short Pump Town Center where you can find over 140 different shops including restaurants, boutiques, well known brand stores and souvenir shops.

Food and Bars

One night on our trip we had dinner in Monterey Bay Fish Grotto on Mt Washington. This is an amazing award winning restaurant in Pittsburgh which offers incredible views of the city while you eat. They have a fantastic menu and great service. We also enjoyed some delicious traditional American dishes in the Iron Rooster and in Rye Street Tavern in Baltimore, and in Richmond we went to West Coast Provision which also had a delicious range of foods on offer.
