Irene's Trip to Rome & Naples

By Irene Onorati

Irenes Trip To Rome

My family and I have been to Italy a few times but this year we decided to explore Naples and Rome. We flew with Aer Lingus from Dublin to Naples and spent two nights in this beautiful city before hiring a car and driving to Rome, which took about 2 hours.

Location

We stayed in the beautiful BW Signature Hotel Paradiso while in Naples, which was only a 25 minute drive from the airport. Here we spent 2 nights overlooking the Gulf of Naples; it was bliss! While in Rome we made ourselves at home in the 4 star Rome Camping Village Fabulous. We made incredible memories here and the kids loved it! Its location was perfect too as it was close to the city and only a 10 minute drive from the airport.

What I Loved

We loved everything about this holiday. However, I don’t think any of us will ever forget our visit to Pompeii. It was an incredible experience witnessing this preserved town that is just steeped in history!

Activities & Places to See

  • The kids loved visiting Castel dell’Ovo. It felt as though we had travelled back in time; after all it is the oldest castle in Naples!
  • Walk along the Bay of Naples promenade, the views are amazing!
  • Visit the Museo Cappella Sansevero. This is one of Naples most beautiful chapels.
  • A Rome holiday is not complete without seeing the iconic Colosseum.
  • Walk up the Spanish Steps or throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain for good luck.

Shopping

We loved shopping in Rome! There are many well-known retailers such as Zara, Mango and H&M on sale here, and we found that prices seemed cheaper than in Dublin. The most popular places to shop are on Via del Corso and if you’re looking for some designer fashion brands Via Condotti is the perfect choice.

Food and Bars

While in Naples we ate in the restaurants near Castel Dell'Ovo, where we of course enjoyed some authentic Italian cuisine. We mostly did a food shop and had our own BBQ while staying on the campsite in Rome. However, we did enjoy a meal in Rome's Hardrock Cafe which was fun. We also grabbed some famous Potato Pizza from the Forno Campo de 'Fiori too! As this was a family holiday, we didn’t spend much time in bars however the night-time entertainment in Camping Village Fabulous is brilliant, we particularly enjoyed the foam parties.
