Fiona's Trip to New York

Fionas Trip To New York

My husband and I spent 5 days in New York, a cosmopolitan and glamourous city. We flew with British Airways from Dublin to London and then from London to New York. From Newark Liberty International airport, we took a taxi to our hotel which took about 45 minutes.

Location

New York is a huge and stunning city. Its variety of entertainment, food, fashion and shows make it incredibly attractive to tourists, and having been myself I can now say it is worth the hype! There is so much to see and to do, you'll never get bored in the Big Apple. We stayed at the 4 star Row NYC Hotel, which was located close to Times Square and the Rockefeller Centre. The rooms were decorated in a minimalist and modern style. The hotel has a bar and restaurant on-site called District M & City Kitchen, which serves a daily continental breakfast and then becomes a cocktail bar in the evening which serves dinner and has live music.

What I Loved

The city has so much to offer. I loved just wandering around and taking in all the sights of New York. I also loved The Top of the Rock, an observation deck at the top of the Rockefeller Centre which offered amazing views of NYC. Walking on the Brooklyn Bridge was great too, as was going on a romantic stroll through Central Park.

Activities & Places to See

  • Visit the iconic Statue of Liberty, a symbol of freedom in the USA.
  • Appreciate the beautiful view as you walk along the Brooklyn Bridge, the world’s first steel suspension bridge.
  • If you love art and natural history, you cannot miss out on the many museums in New York. Some of the most famous include the American Museum of Natural History, the Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
  • If you love musicals, go see one of the spectacular shows on Broadway.
  • Visit the 9/11 Memorial Museum to learn about the tragedy that occurred on the 9th September 2001.

Shopping

Shopping in NYC is an incredible experience. There are plenty of shops here selling everything you could ever possibly want. The most famous street to enjoy a shopping day at is Fifth Avenue, but you should also explore Brookfield Palace with its postmodern architecture and beautiful boutiques and shops, as well as the Westfield World Trade Centre where you can find lots of brands. The Manhattan Mall is really popular too, and makes for an enjoyable day out. If you are looking for something more local visit Brooklyn Flea Market and Chelsea Market, where you'll find delicious food shops and lots of vintage stuff.

Food and Bars

New York has plenty of restaurants, cocktail bars, cafés, fast-food restaurants and bars. There is a lot of international cuisine on offer, so be adventurous and try a range of delicious foods on your trip! We enjoyed a nice dinner at Upland Restaurant, which served delicious Californian cuisine and had a great choice of wines on offer. We also had a fabulous cocktail in the elegant Plaza Bar.
