Elaine's Trip to Rome

Elaines Trip To Rome

I recently visited Rome and wasn’t sure what to expect as it was my first time there, but I found that there was so much to see and do. We flew with Ryanair into Ciampino Airport, which along with Fiumacino Airport is one of the two main airports in Rome. The bus to Rome Termini train station took about 50 minutes. Our hotel was the four-star Boutique Centrale Palace Hotel located right next to the Piazza di Spagna and the Spanish Steps.

Location

Our hotel was located centrally, less than five minutes’ walk from the world-famous Piazza Di Spagna square. It was a beautiful old building with clean and nicely decorated rooms and was also close to hundreds of shops and restaurants in the area, as well as the Spagna metro stop. I also liked that the hotel has balcony rooms available, as the neighbourhood is gorgeous.

What I Loved

My favourite thing about Rome was the Hop on Hop off bus tour, which was a great way to see the city and all of the major sights for only €23 for the day. I loved sitting in the open air on the top of the bus as the weather was very pleasant, and the views of the city were great.

Activities & Places to See

  • No visit to Rome is complete without a visit to the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. I loved all of the history with Roman temples and houses, and there’s definitely enough to occupy a day.
  • I also thought that the Vatican and the Sistine Chapel were well worth a visit, and it was so interesting to walk into another country from Rome!
  • Rome has so many museums to visit too, like the Palatine Museums or the Castel Sant’Angelo.

Shopping

Rome is full of shopping opportunities, with hundreds of popular brands and luxury shops in short walking distance of our hotel and in the city in general. I noticed that Rome specialises in really stylish clothes shops.

Food and Bars

Italy is famous for its food and wine, and Rome is no exception. There are pizzerias and bars on nearly every street, and they are all reasonably priced, with pizzas mostly under €10 each. Everything was really fresh and delicious, and I especially recommend La Montecarlo near the Pantheon, which has amazing and authentic food.
