This small batch roaster has a few locations across the city so you have no excuse not to try it on your holiday to New York. Make sure to visit the Flatiron Espresso Bar and see if you’ll be one of the rare few lucky enough to get a window seat. There’s also a book shop attached to it that you can check out while you’re there.

This Australian run studio and espresso bar in Brooklyn is normally packed, and rightly so. They do a drink called the Sparky which consists of espresso, club soda and lime, and they also sell jaffles which are the Australian equivalent of toasties. During the summer you can experience their Australian style iced coffees and soak up the sun out on the front patio.

Pop down to this coffee shop that prides itself on being the only exclusively ‘farm-to-table’ coffee roaster in the world. Their coffee beans are sourced from Colombia where they are dry-milled and shipped to the US 10 days after ‘green’ for roasting, meaning they always offer newly roasted, fresh coffee. This spot has been described as a ‘tropical living room’ because there are loads of plants and big leather couches, as well as an open skylight that covers the shop in natural light.

4. Chalait

If you like matcha then this is the spot for you! While they focus mainly on making matcha more palatable to the western world, they still sell the regular coffees and teas that you’re used to so don’t worry if you’re not fully sold on matcha. This spot is also a great one to people watch from while sipping away on your drink.

Unlike many coffee shops that have become impersonal, at Birch they encourage their baristas to learn customers’ names and orders making for a great personal experience. They have plenty of locations across NYC so it won’t be too hard to find one. Their Flatiron location has lots of books everywhere so you can give one a read while drinking one of their great, strong coffees.

6. Blue Bottle Coffee

This one is great for both hot and iced coffee fans. Customers can try out San Francisco’s Blue Bottle Coffee that is made to order from freshly roasted beans. For iced coffee drinkers the New Orleans-style coffee comes recommended as it is brewed with roasted chicory and milk and cane sugar are added to it.
