It is a no-brainer why Huntington Beach is also known as Surf City. Catch a wave at Huntington Pier or you could watch local dudes riding the waves while you cycle or skateboard along the oceanfront path. Surf City locals live by the saying ‘Life’s a Beach’ but there are other things in this city that you can do. If you are in tune with nature, explore the trails of Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve.

3. Los Angeles

The City of Angels is the largest city of the Golden State so getting around could be a challenge. It is advised to plan your trip to LA in advance. Get off your car and stop by Santa Monica and head to Santa Monica Pier. It is a must-visit and be sure to take a photo of the iconic red and tallow ferriswheel! After Santa Monica, you can head to Downtown LA and appreciate the vibe and artsy scene.

Santa Barbara equals perfect architecture and perfect scenery. Take a break from your road trip and stay in this elegant city for at least a night or two and take in the beauty of its colonial Spanish architecture. Do you want something scenic in your road trip? Drive around the rolling hills and endless vines in Santa Barbara specifically at Santa Ynez Valley. There are self-guided tours in this region and wine tasting. Never drink and drive! That’s why Santa Ynez Valley has a number of elegant chateaus for overnight stays.

5. San Francisco

Save San Francisco as the last city for you to visit during your California road trip. Park your car and explore the City by the Bay. Take its unique public transportation just ‘cause or rent a bike and go across the Golden Gate Bridge. Then drive up to Grizzly Peaks and hike up Berkeley Hills for a panoramic view of the city. This spot is named as one of the best spot for stargazing on days when the San Franciscan sky is clear.
