Aoife's Trip to Gran Canaria

Aoifes Trip To Gran Canaria Macro 1

I took part in a 5-day Fam Trip to Gran Canaria with the Spanish Tourist Board and travelled with 5 other agents from around Ireland. I flew directly from Dublin to Gran Canaria with Aer Lingus, with an approximate flight time of 4 hours. The itinerary was jam packed but I enjoyed every minute of it! We travelled all around the island and really got a sense of the local culture aswell as the usual tourist things such as hotels, beaches and more.

Location

I travelled around most of the island, North and South, staying in Playa del Ingles which is in the South of the island. We travelled to Arucas, Las Palmas, Agaete in the North of the island and then down to Puerto Rico, Puerto Mogan and Maspalomas. We visited the Banana and Rum plantations, local wineries and had some site visits in the hotels.

What I Loved

I loved visiting the local family-owned wineries and tasting the wine and olive oil that they make on-site. I also loved trying all of the different foods on offer, some of which included Canarian cheeses, gofio, potatoes with mojo, fruits such as avocado, banana and papaya and fresh fish among others.

Shopping

There are numerous shopping centres that you can visit in the different resorts, such as Mogan, El Tablero and in the capital of Las Palmas. There are also smaller centres with local souvenir shops in the Yumbo and Kasbah centres in Playa del Ingles.

Food & Bars

We ate at the hotels we were visiting as they hosted us for dinner and lunch. We stayed at the 4* Seaside Sandy Beach Hotel in Playa del Ingles, a chain which is famous for their amazing buffets. There are plenty of restaurants around Gran Canaria offering all different types of cuisine, so everyone's tastes are sure to be met. Bars & clubs can be found in all the resorts across the island too so you'll never be short of something to do.
