Aoife's Trip to Brittany

Myself, my husband and 2 children ages 4 and 2 travelled to Brittany with Irish Ferries. Brittany is in north west France, just south of Normandy. We took the new W.B. Yeats ferry with Irish Ferries from Dublin to Cherbourg which left in the evening (16:00) and arrived the following morning (11:00). We took our own car and drove to the campsite in Dol de Bretagne.
Location
We stayed at Domaine des Ormes Eurocamp in Dol de Bretagne, Brittany. The distance from Cherbourg to our campsite was approximately 200km but it took almost 3 hours as we had a roof box and bike rack so we had to take our time.
What I Loved
I loved our day trips to St. Malo and the aquarium. Furthermore, when we went to Le Mont St-Michel there was an alligator park there which was great as adults got to enjoy the sites and beauty of the historic towns while the children had entertainment on the same trip.
Activities & Places to See
- The Brittany peninsula has many beautiful old towns.
- We visited the walled coastal city of St. Malo and walked their ramparts and visited the Aquarium.
- We also took a visit to the ancient island-Abbey town of Le Mont St-Michel which is fascinating.
- We visited another walled-city, Dinan which is a river port and has a dramatic aqueduct and a steep climb to the top of the ramparts to the historic town-centre.
Food & Bars
We were doing self-catering at Eurocamp, but they also had a restaurant on site for pizzas, pastas and salads at reasonable prices. We visited restaurants on all of our visits; Brittany is famous for its seafood treasures so I tried oysters, clams, crabs, prawns and lots more!
