Alison's Trip to Ras Al Khaimah
By Alison Clark
I got the opportunity to go on an amazing trip to Ras Al Khaimah with the Ras Al Khaimah Tourist Board and Emirates. During my trip, I got the chance to try all sorts of activities and saw some truly wonderful attractions and landmarks. This emirate should definitely be on everyone's list to visit!
Location
Ras Al Khaimah is located in the northernmost part of the United Arab Emirates and is known for its stunning beaches, historic sites, and luxurious resorts. We stayed in the Rixos Al Mairid, which is classed as the downtown area, and then the Hilton Doubletree by Hilton Marjan Island. We flew direct from Dublin to Dubai, and from there it was about a 90 minute drive to Ras Al Khaimah.
What I Loved
The weather was perfect, and the hotel standards were excellent. The Waldorf Astoria and Crowne Plaza Wadi Desert were amazing, each offering something unique. The Rixos upgraded our rooms and went all out to impress us. Our lovely private driver even took us on a scenic route to the airport, where we saw camels in the desert - such a great way to end the trip.
Activities & Places to see
The tourist board organized visits to Ras Al Khaimah's main attractions, focusing on the stunning mountain range above the city. One highlight was experiencing the world’s longest zipline, a thrilling ride that offered breathtaking views and an unforgettable adrenaline rush. We also tried the Sledder, a go-kart-like ride that races down the mountain at surprisingly fast speeds, combining excitement and spectacular scenery for a truly memorable adventure.
Shopping
Unfortunately we didn't get to visit any of the malls but obviously there are plenty around. The Doubletree did offer a shuttle service to their local mall that was bookable in advance.
Restaurants & Bars
We ate in the hotel restaurants whilst we were there and at the hotels where we had a site visit. The Rixos allowed us to sample the Turkish a la carte restaurant, which turned out to be my favourite dining experience. The cuisines featured a good mix of Indian style foods alongside a varied selection of western favourites. The variety on offer was amazing, with something to suit every taste. All the restaurants featured a children’s section of the buffets that were lower than the main buffet, so the children could help themselves. All the bars were well stocked with premium brands and featured happy hours for people not on All Inclusive.
