The town is rich in Roman history, with the region being a popular getaway spot for many Roman Emperors. During your holiday you must visit Pompeii which offers the truly unique and moving experience of witnessing a city and its citizens frozen in time. In Sorrento itself there is plenty of history to delve into, with 14th century churches, Roman-era fortifications, and museums.

Sorrento is a great family holiday destination thanks to its sightseeing opportunities, boat trips, and beaches just outside the town! It's also a great spot for couples, as they can experience a romantic retreat as they sip on limoncello whilst admiring the charming scenery.

Two times a week there are direct flights from Dublin to Naples with a flight time of 3 hours and 15 minutes. From the airport a transfer can get you to Sorrento within 1.5-2 hours.

Nightlife

Sorrento has a fantastic nightlife with buzzing clubs and bars boasting beautiful views. As the town is known for its Limoncello, you must enjoy some - it will be available in almost any bar!

Dining Out

There are a variety of eateries in Sorrento, from traditional restaurants, pizzerias and gelato shops just to name a few! A typical Sorrento dish is Gnocchi alla sorrentina – fresh pasta in tomato sauce with melted mozzarella on top.

For Families  

Other than sightseeing and visiting museums, children can release their energy by swimming at a nearby beach, the Bagni della Regina Giovanna, or a hotel pool. The area is very child-friendly, and kids are bound to love the gelato shops!

Beaches  

Sorrento itself does not have a main beach. Instead travellers can enjoy beach clubs on bathing platforms with access to the sea. Nearby is the sand and shingle Cala Di Puolo beach, with sunbeds for hire.

Shopping 

Sorrento is full of quaint vintage shops selling antiques and crafts. You can also head to a souvenir shop for a bottle of Limoncello, or to the market for fresh local produce.

Sant'Anna Festival

Every year on the 26th of July, Sorrento hosts the Sant’Anna Festival. During this event there are fireworks at sea, a procession, and other sacred local traditions.

Sorrento enjoys a typical sunny and warm Mediterranean climate, so the summers are hot and the winters mild. Peak summer season can reach temperatures in the low 30s with around 13 hours of sun a day, so this is the perfect time to go for those wanting a tan! Spring and Autumn are great options too, with warm weather and fewer crowds.
