Go fully underwater in a yellow submarine and experience one of the world’s most sophisticated hi-tech tourist submarines. Tour guides provide you with a commentary of the underwater life that surrounds you and a diving certificate to show that you went to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean without even getting your hair wet!

Check out the unusual looking vineyards of Lanzarote which you might not think are vineyards until they’re pointed out to you. This is because the vines are planted in shallow hollows which are protected from north easterly breezes by a horseshoe shaped wall. Surprisingly, the black volcanic soil is rich in nutrients, making it ideal for growing grapes.

3. Los Jameos del Agua

Los Jameos del Agua is a roofless crater formed from lava bubbles which holds a blue lagoon surrounded by tropical plants. In here you can see the indigenous crab, known as the jameito, which is both blind and albino. Cesar Manrique, the islands most famous son, is responsible for turning this spot into a unique entertainment venue with an auditorium, restaurant and bar, and three times a week is a popular evening venue with dining and dancing below sea level.

4. Surfing in Famara

Pop down to the old fishing village of Caleta de Famara and take a surf lesson from one of the surf schools located in the area. You’ll find plenty of great teachers here, all determined to get you standing up on your board by the end of the day. You’re bound to take a few tumbles off the board but that’s all part of the fun!
